Sooo Tavi Gevinson. Ladyhero. Nevermind the fact that she's like a decade younger than me, she's still a ladyhero. Tavi was a keynote speaker at the Melbourne Writer's Festival (among others like London's mayor Boris Johnson, bless him). She spoke for about half an hour and then did a Q&A session.

Let me just say that Tavi essentially spoke about what she loves and about how her life is kind of like being a professional fangirl and being creative. Everything she said I've thought, but she says it so much more eloquently than I could ever do. When you have some spare time, check out her speech, because it's really truly great and I relate a lot. Any teenage girl, or anyone who's been a teenager really, would relate! Also, Benjamin Law chats to her in the above video, so that's #awesome!

Yes, Tavi referenced One Direction. And Bieber. Daria. Taylor Swift. The Virgin Suicides. Fleetwood Mac. Rashida Jones. All sorts of amazeball stuff. She makes me rethink my internet bio of "pop culture nerd".

Once again I've neglected my little corner of the www. Just running in to say that my friend Dave made his directorial debut for our friends' latest single and I'm super dooper proud of him.

Dave, Al, Ulrich and some other peeps went to Iceland for a few days to film it. Al character is a bit of a vagabond who wanders around trying to get to his destination in some really spectacular scenery.

This is by far, one of the coolest design projects I've seen. It was commissioned for the Sony office in London (right near where my old housemate works) and it combines two things I really love: music and typography.

The Sony Music Timeline by Alex Fowkes celebrates 125 years of musical history covering almost 150 square meters of wall space in Sony’s Derry Street headquarters. Using just CNC cut vinyl as the sole medium, 54 columns measuring over 2 meters tall cover feature nearly 1000 of Sony Music's signed artists from 1887 to the present day.

 I can't even really say much more about it without doing some serious gushing, but watch the videos and look at the photos. I wish I could see it in real life! Maybe I'll be able to wrangle a peek when I visit  London next...

So after being internet-less for over a week since one of our housemates moved out and the phone was in her name, we are finally back online! You don't realise just how much you use the internet until it's just not there and you have to make do with two bars of reception and the "E" haunting you in the corner of your iPhone (because of course we get dodgy reception in our house).

Anyway, what better way to kick start posting than a nice big music post. By nice big music post, I mean it's just going to be a post full of Cloud Control. Cloud Control are a band from the Blue Mountains in Australia and they make seriously great music. They're also wonderful people, foodies and all-round-nice-guys-and-a-girl.

I am so happy Ulrich and Al randomly invited LK around for dinner, that Kate and Dave were there. I'm going to miss them all dearly! But when I come back to visit I know I'll be coming to catch up with my superstar friends who are all superfamous musicians, actors and directors, so it'll be okay. Also, I'm expecting visits to Oz.

big issues // kony 2012 Posted by Helena

I know everyone's been tweeting, facebooking and talking about Kony 2012. It's been getting some criticism over sources of funding, facts about the LRA, why they're only petitioning the US government, etc, but it's still a very powerful piece of media and well worth watching.

Thanks to Jess who directed me to this interesting article about the legitimacy of the charity.

If I can please alert you to my score of a perfect 100! Not quite the 300 pros score, but y'know... I doubled my score from the previous game.

And again, my totally talented friend Aaron made a video of us and, dare I say it, but we look pretty cool! Watching it made me feel like I wanted to hang out with all the cool people in that video. Is that a bit lame? Oh well, have a look. Excuse the extreme close up of my face...

I do so love Meryl Streep. Here she is accepting her Golden Bear at the Berlin Honour Awards, complete with a lovely intro by Jake Gyllenhaal who's childhood friends with her son.
