I hope you're ready for a post that's a little on the heavy side. Image wise that is! Laura is going to make some special disco cake pops for her boyfriend Pete's new London club night Dance London Dance, and we decided on a trial run since we'd never made them before. With the help of April Carter's trusty book, Top of the Cake Pops, we managed to successfully make our very first batch of cake pops! We made the classic red velvet pops and they are delicious. It took a little while, but we did stretch it out over three days. We made the cake on Thursday night, the icing and rolling the dough into balls on Friday night, and turned them into cake pops and decorated them on Saturday morning!
And now comes my (sometimes unnecessary) captions for every photo...
Here's our red velvet cake crumbled.
Mixing the icing.
Here's the icing dolloped into the cake crumbs.
Our "dough"!
Then you cover and refrigerate.
Here's our melted candy melts and our cake pops after the lollipop sticks were inserted.

Our other housemate Laura K (it can get confusing) is in Tigercats and their album launch is this Friday and it's sold out. Go LK! Just before we started decorating, Laura had the genius idea of making some pops for the album launch! So here's what we came up with...
Holy shit Helena, you need to start a food blog stat! Not only does everything you make turn out beautifully, but the photos are just gorgeous too! Also, I want cakepop now. NOW! xx
ReplyDeleteAaaawesome! I want a cat-shaped cake pop! Yumyumyum.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! I have thought about starting a food blog, but I don't pay enough attention to this one, so maybe I can just start doing more food posts...
ReplyDeleteAnd Kirsten, you should totally get the book! ;)
Ah, how cute. I've always wanted to make cake pops but never gotten around to it. Yours turned out really well - the cat pops are my favourites :) And I've never seen that Dr. Oetker shimmer spray before but it looks awfully convenient.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely give it a try! You need a little more time than baking the average cake but the results are worth it. So yummy. They're all gone now except for the Tigercats pops!
ReplyDeleteOH OH OH. I LOVE Made in Chelsea. You're right, it is much better than TOWIE. I actually kinda hate TOWIE but I can't stop watching. I don't like any of the people in TOWIE. Made in Chelsea is where it's at!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to have dinner at my friend's house and watch the first episode of season 3. It starts next week!
