fashion // marni for h&m - part 2

11 Mar 2012

Does anyone else have the problem of not being able to sleep early when you know you need to get up early the next day? Well I definitely felt that on Wednesday night before Marni for H&M launched! My friend Jon is a veteran of these fashion events and under his tutelage (and very detailed email complete with a screencap from Google Maps), I managed to leave the house on time, and made it to Bond Street for 6am. I was blasting my iPod and powering up the escalator so I really didn't notice that Jon was yelling my name as he came up the escalator behind me. Whoops.

I'd lined up with Jon at the Knightsbridge store for the Lanvin H&M collection, but it was during winter, it was freezing and we waited outside for 3 hours. Yuck. We did get free gift bags with woollen scarves though, and I got my gorgeous yellow dress (above). Selfridges was a lot more civilised. The security guard who gave us our wristbands for the first group (hurrah!) kindly told us to go and wait in a cafe as we were guaranteed entry and wouldn't have to worry about coming back until closer to 9am. So we sat in Starbucks and had breakfast, then moved to another Italian cafe and had more hot drinks, before lining back up outside the entrance.

Once we were inside it was all a little bit mental with the amount of people grabbing clothes and boxes of accessories. I was getting things for a work friend too, but I somehow managed to grab the silk maxi dress and accessories I wanted. Thanks friends who held things for me! Here's what I picked up...

  1. Oh goodness, that's always the worst feeling - when you know you need the sleep but the excitement just deprives you of it. It all worked out for you though - you got quite the haul there and I'm glad you were able to get everything you wanted as I'm sure those accessories disappeared quite quickly.

Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of this collaboration itself but I absolutely love what they did for the packaging - so simple and classy.

  2. Oh it's horrible isn't it! Especially when you have to wake up for an early fight. That is the absolute worst. Anxiety to the max.

After all that I actually haven't kept all of the necklaces! One's a present and some just didn't suit me. I do love the earrings though, and I wasn't expecting to buy any of them! The other dress I liked the look of disappointed me in real life, so I bought earrings instead.

Marni's not for everyone - and some of the clothing was really weird and very European, but I do love statement jewellery and prints! Versace was the one that really didn't grab me...

  3. I've actually never been on an airplane (I'm so deprived - all my friends are shocked when I tell them this) but I can only imagine it's awful especially since they are often scheduled at the most ridiculously early hours. And of course, if the flight is delayed, all that anxiety was for nothing and you end up waiting around even longer.

Which necklaces did you end up keeping? It was probably a good choice to go with the earrings instead - I'm sure you'll get more wear out of them anyways.

Oh, Versace - the simpler pieces weren't too bad but others were too loud and gaudy for my tastes. Regardless, it'll be interesting to see who the designer will be for the next collaboration though.

  4. Ahh I'm from Australia but currently living in London, so you can safely say I've been on my fair share of planes! I've definitely got the travel bug, but it's a matter of juggling life/work/money... fashion, as evident from this post, haha.

I kept the yellow one and the white camelia one with the leather straps, which I don't think I posted here. I'm wearing it right now actually!

I liked a couple of things from the cruise collection, but not enough to fork out money... I think by the time the next one comes out I'll be back in Australia so I went big on this one!

  5. Ah, how exciting! How much longer are you in London for?

Oh my goodness, I had no idea that Australia didn't have H&M - I can totally understand why you ended up with such a haul.

  6. Until about October, then I'm going to New York again on my way home. I love NYC!

I think I'll miss H&M the most from all the stores here... Australia got Topshop and Zara in the last 18 months since I've been away, but it's more expensive there!
